Cargill Inc. will outsource some of its information technology services jobs to a company based in India. The move that could affect 900 jobs, including 300 in the Twin Cities, the Star Tribune reported. The company isn't saying how many jobs will be cut, but told employees this week that the services will be outsourced to Tata Consultancy Services over the next nine months.Spokeswoman Lena Michaud said some employees will remain at Cargill, some will will get jobs with the outsourcing firm and some will be laid off. She said employees will know their job status by May. "We have been communicating openly with our employees about this possibility since last fall, and we will continue to support them through the transition," Michaud said in an email. "Employees who are not retained by Cargill or hired by TCS will be eligible for comprehensive outplacement and career development support, severance to lessen the financial impact and other transition benefits."Tata opened a 300-person office in Bloomington in 2012. The outsourcing firm's clients have included Target, Best Buy, Supervalu and Allianz Life Insurance Co. of North America. The Wayzata-based agribusiness's last major layoff was announced in December 2011, when it cut 2,000 jobs.
